Common procedures in soft tissue surgery
Here are some of the the kinds of surgeries we frequently handle:
● Gastrointestinal and abdominal surgery - foreign body removal, intestinal repairs, gastrointestinal conditions
● Urogenital surgery - bladder-or ureter repairs, urinary obstructions, reproductive surgeries
● Tumour removal / oncological soft tissue surgery - removing lumps or masses in organs or soft tissues
● Reconstructive / wound repair - repairing traumatic injuries, skin flaps or grafts
● Thoracic or chest surgery - some chest cavity or lung/pleural surgeries if needed
● Ear / neck / head surgeries - airway surgeries, ear canal work, ENT soft tissue procedures
Our surgical care pathway
1. Initial consultation & diagnostics - we assess your pet, run bloodwork, imaging or scoped evaluation to understand the the issue.
2. Surgical planning - we determine whether minimally invasive / keyhole approaches are possible, or if open surgery is needed.
3. Surgery day - your pet is placed under monitored general anaesthesia, the necessary surgery is performed in a sterile theatre.
4. Post-operative recovery - pain management, wound monitoring, rest and restricted activity.
5. Follow-up and discharge - we provide take-home instructions, wound care, medication, dietary advice and check-ups.
Is this right for my pet?
Soft tissue surgery may be recommended if:
● Medications or medical management are not enough (e.g. recurring internal problems, foreign bodies, masses).
● Conditions that require direct access inside body cavities.
● Trauma or wounds that need reconstruction.
● Conditions where organs need repair (liver, bladder, stomach, intestines, etc.).
We always discuss alternatives, risks and benefits with you in transparent way so you can decide the best approach for your pet.
How long does recovery take?
Recovery depends on the procedure. Simple soft tissue surgeries may allow return to normal activity in days; more complex internal or reconstructive cases might need a week or more of restriction (or several weeks).
Will my pet need to stay overnight?
In many cases yes - we often keep patients overnight for monitoring, especially after internal or complex soft tissue surgeries.
How painful is the surgery?
We provide tailored pain relief (pre-, during, and post-op) to ensure your pet is comfortable during recovery.
Can minimally invasive surgery be used?
Yes - for appropriate cases (e.g. certain abdominal or soft tissue procedures), minimally invasive or keyhole techniques can reduce trauma and speed recovery.
What are the risks?
As with all surgeries, there are risks (anaesthetic, infection, bleeding, or complications). We mitigate these with diagnostics, careful planning, and experienced staff.
When can my pet eat after surgery?
Many pets can start with small meals within 24 hours, depending on the area operated on. We’ll advise you specifically for your pet’s surgery type.
